Matt argues for the inclusion of Wilhelm Furtwängler among the ranks of great Leibnizian thinkers. Furtwängler's approach to musical performance and composition embodies not only the approach of the Gestalt Psychologists in their study of unitary wholes, but reflects the more distilled philosophy of “Creation-in-Action”, which formed the basis of Leibniz's theological and scientific outlook.
